There are two large settlements on Svalbard with Longyearbyen being the largest with some 2000 inhabitants. This is Norway’s most exotic destination, an outpost with impressive mountains, fjords and glaciers it radiates an icy beauty with an extraordinary light. This is the only place in Norway where you can encounter a Polar Bear, the majestic King of the Arctic.
In spite of its location so far north, Svalbard has a relatively mild climate compared to other areas on the same latitude. The island used to be a great whale-hunting destination and hunting is still going on today but mainly for scientific purposes. Coal mining on Svalbard was for many years a very important industry and the main reason for the settlement in Longyearbyen, and today two mines are still in operation.
Searching for the ultimate unique activities during your incentive trip? Overnight onboard a ship frozen into the fjord, explore ice caves, glacier safari on dog sleds, arctic kayaking and much more.
The group of islands of Svalbard is a truly magical place offering you extraordinary experiences both summer and winter.
